We live in an absurdly and painfully optimistic world. Mostly, that’s a result of all the businesses out there trying to sell us things and—understandably—using cheerfulness to do it.
Alain de Botton speaks in praise of pessimism in this wonderfully animated short video. He may sound a bit gloomy, but he has a strong point: expectations matter a whole heck of a lot.

That’s depressing. I’m a pessimist who grew up with optimists. It made me over compensate and now I have forgotten how to b optimistic.
